What a summer our junior jumpers had! Three Grasshopper Camps in Lake Placid on the K10/20/48, two Development Camps on the K48/90, and a NYSEF trip to Norge Ski Club, IL on their K10/20/48/70 were great summer jumping opportunities. New jumpers were able to use their new, appropriately-sized equipment on plastic and more experienced jumpers sharpened their skills under the expert tutelage of coaches Larry Stone, Jay Rand, and Colin Delaney. Athletes were also able to try out roller-skiing on the Lake Placid course in a nordic combined competition. SWSA athletes had very good showings against other Eastern jumpers, as well as some Central athletes who came to Lake Placid to train.
Aerin Sheil and Frankie McLoughlin, members of SWSA's youngest cohort, spent time on the K10 and landing hill of the K20 working on their inrun positions and landing hill form.
Gus Tripler, a newcomer to summer jumping, enjoyed his first experience jumping in Lake Placid and is looking forward to winter.
Wyeth Taylor, in his second summer of jumping, won the Grasshopper Cup and medaled in the K10/U10 and K20 Open. Wyeth also spent time at the Norge Ski Club in Fox River Grove, IL, jumping their K10 and K25.
Henry Sheil, in his first summer of jumping medaled in the K10/U10.
Islay Sheil spent a lot of time on her jumping skis this summer while attending two development camps at Lake Placid and a development trip with NYSEF to Norge Ski Club where she jumped their K70 before coming back to Lake Placid and jumping the K90 multiple times. She medaled in the Grasshopper Cup competition and the K20 Open. Islay is getting stronger and more confident as a jumper. We're thrilled to have her as a leader and role model for younger athletes.
The support of SWSA in the form of subsidies for travel and camp fees as well as equipment is essential to summers like these. We hear from other clubs that they would have a lot more jumpers but for the lack of equipment. A huge thank you to the club from the jumpers and their parents!!!
The kids are excited for the fall jumping season as well as a big winter ahead!
